Privacy Policy
Last updated July 1, 2026
NationsHelm ("we", "us") provides geopolitical intelligence cards, comparisons, and analysis at nationshelm.com (the "Service"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. If you sign up with a password, we store a salted hash of it — never the password itself. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile image from Google instead.
Usage data
We record which countries and leaders you star, the filter sets behind any Intelligence Panel insights you save, and a count of how many insights you generate each day. Signed-in usage is tied to your account; if you generate insights without an account, we track your daily count with a cookie instead.
Local preferences
Your light/dark theme preference is stored only in your browser's local storage and is never sent to our servers.
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account, and keep you signed in.
- To save your starred countries/leaders and saved insight filters across sessions.
- To enforce free-plan usage limits and determine plan access (free, premium, enterprise).
- To operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
Intelligence Panel insights are generated by our own deterministic logic running on our servers from public country and leader data. We do not currently send your queries to a third-party LLM provider. If that changes, we'll update this policy first.
Legal basis for processing (EEA/UK)
Where applicable, we process personal data based on:
- performance of a contract (providing your account)
- your consent (analytics cookies)
- our legitimate interests (operating and securing the Service)
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the infrastructure providers that run the Service on our behalf:
- Vercel — hosts the application and processes standard request logs (e.g. IP address, timestamps).
- Neon — hosts our Postgres database where account and usage data described above is stored.
- Google — provides "Sign in with Google" if you choose that option, and Google Analytics, which helps us understand how visitors use the Service (e.g. pages viewed, approximate location, device/browser type).
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of NationsHelm, our users, or others.
International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own by our service providers. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
Cookies
We use a session cookie to keep you signed in, and, if you use the Service without an account, a cookie to track your daily free-insight count. These cookies are required for the Service to function and are not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.
We also use Google Analytics, which sets cookies to measure how visitors use the Service in aggregate. This data is not used for advertising and is not used to identify you personally.
If you are visiting from the EU, EEA, or UK, we do not set Google Analytics cookies or load Google Analytics until you accept our cookie banner. You can accept or reject analytics cookies when the banner appears, and your choice is remembered for 6 months. Visitors elsewhere are tracked by default, as is standard for this type of analytics outside those regions.
Data retention
We retain account and usage data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from your account settings, which permanently deletes your profile, starred items, saved insights, and usage history.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information. However, no Internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Your choices
- Access or update your account details from your account settings.
- Delete your account, which removes the personal data described above.
- Unstar items or delete saved insights at any time.
- Clear cookies in your browser to reset anonymous usage tracking.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal information. To exercise these rights, contact privacy@nationshelm.com.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
